For this project my two teammates and I were tasked to create a chair from reclaimed mahogany wood dated over a hundred years old. From ideation to production, we worked to create a tall and angular structure. We 3D modeled the chair, prepared the wood, created jigs and assembled the structure only using dowels, glue and structural tension.
Unlike most production processes, we started with the wood, it was our limiting factor. Old and brittle and in low quantity, it forced our ideation process to mold to the materials we had available to us. We sketched and modeled a few different options, finally deciding on this very tall and angular design, firstly ideated by my very talented teammate Syed.
